History of “The Birthday of a King”:

Neidlinger was born in Brooklyn in 1863. He began his career as an organist at the prominent St. Michael’s Church in New York City. In 1896, he had the opportunity to travel to London to study music, then went to Paris to work as a singing teacher. In 1901, Neidlinger returned to America and settled in Chicago, where he was an esteemed music teacher. As a composer, he wrote a broad range of works spanning from songs for young children to magnificent operas. The success of Neidlinger’s Small Songs for Small Singers, 1896 turned his attention to teaching children. He took a particular interest in helping children with speech and vocal disabilities and devoted much of his later life to this cause – ultimately founding a school in New Jersey for handicapped children.
