Mom’s Best Sugar Cookie Recipe

My mom is famous for her “melt-in-your-mouth” sugar cookies. She makes them every holiday (and for birthdays too!). These are a family favorite, and I hope that you and your family enjoy them as much as we do!
Mom's Best Sugar Cookies

1 cup sugar

Frosting:
2 tablespoons hot water
1 tablespoon butter
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
sprinkles
food coloring or other decorations

Directions:

1. Mix together flour, baking powder and soda. Cut in butter to look like cornmeal.
2. In a separate bowl, beat eggs. Add sugar and beat well.
3. Mix with flour mixture to create a dough then chill for at least one hour.
4. Roll out dough, and use cookie cutters to form shapes.
5. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, and bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes.

Frosting:
1. Pour hot water over butter to melt it.
2. Add sugar, and blend with electric mixer until smooth.
3. Add additional water or sugar to the frosting to obtain the right consistency.

Cookies with Writing: To write or draw with frosting, simply place the frosting in a Ziploc bag. Cut off a small tip from the corner of the bag and pipe the frosting onto the cookie.

Cookies on a Stick: To make cookies on a stick, just press a cookie stick into the dough before cooking (see image below). You can find cookie sticks at a craft store (or even Walmart stores carry them). The chocolate tulips in the picture are for a chocolate cookie recipe; however, the concept is the same. The cookies will spread and bake up around the stick.
