Memorial Day Resources
I realize that our country, in large part, has come to view Memorial Day as nothing more than an extra “vacation day” — I am guilty of this myself. However, as I have learned more about the history of this day, as well as the fact that a staggering 1.8 million people have given their lives for America since 1775, I am sobered. I have been searching out good resources for Memorial Day, and here are some of my favorites . . .
The first resource I want to share is www.usmemorialday.org. It is a content rich website that includes the history, the traditions, and the meaning of Memorial Day.
Second is the “Memorial Day Holiday Helper” created by Living Books Curriculum. It is a 20-page FREE download that includes history, stories, picture study, and poetry. I love this resource! You can work through it as a family or allow older kids to do it on their own.
Third is a YouTube video of the song “Arlington” by Trace Adkins; it is a moving tribute to those who have given their lives in the US Military.
I hope that these resources help to make your Memorial Day meaningful.
