Advent Week 1, 2013 (Guide and Song)

Advent begins this Sunday, December 1. Historically, it is a time for Christians to prepare their hearts for the coming of Christmas. You can learn more about Advent on our History of Advent page.

It is so easy to lose focus on the Lord during this season in our culture. For that reason, my family and I are intentional about reading Scripture every night before dinner, as well as lighting candles on an Advent wreath. This has been a special tradition for our family for many years, and I am happy to share this FREE Advent Guide with you.

Advent GuideYou can download this guide or use our Advent Week 1 Reading page.

Every Friday, I will also be sharing a new Advent song. One of my favorites is “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus,” a hymn written by Charles Wesley in 1745 (this link is to a You Tube video with lyrics).

You can learn more about the song and/or its author at at Net Hymnal.org or Hymns and Carols of Christmas.
