Turkey Apple Recipe

I think these turkey apples are so cute, and they work well as a “food craft” at Thanksgiving parties for kids. They are fun to make and even more fun to eat!

Apple and Candy Edible TurkeyIngredients:

Apple
Glazed Doughnut Holes
Gum Drops*
Mini Chocolate Chips
Candy Corn
Toothpicks

*For a healthier alternative, you can use grapes or cheese cubes.

Directions:

1. Cut the yellow part off of a candy corn and stick the point of a toothpick in it to form a beak. Push this toothpick through a doughnut hole. The toothpick should be sticking out the other end.

2. Push the pointed side of two mini chocolate chips into the doughnut hole to form eyes. Set aside.

3. Thread 3 toothpicks with 2 gumdrops each and poke them into an apple to form the front layer of “wings.”

4. Thread 5 toothpicks with 3 gumdrops each and poke them into an apple to form the back layer of “wings” (be careful not to place them too far back or the apple will tip over). If your apple is too wobbly, you can cut off a small piece from the bottom to form a flat surface.

5. Use the toothpick that is sticking through the doughnut hole to attach it to the apple. This will form the “head” of the turkey. Arrange two candy corns as the feet. Enjoy!
